AI Workflows
Once you've unlocked Pro and added your API key, Jotaid's AI helpers show up throughout the app. This page walks through each one end to end — what triggers it, what it does, and what you get back.

Every workflow below runs on your own provider key and only sends content when you trigger it. See AI Setup for configuration and privacy.
Auto Title & Tags
When: as you create and write a note (on by default; toggle in Settings → AI).
Jotaid reads your content and proposes a descriptive title plus relevant tags drawn from your existing vocabulary. You stay in control — nothing is forced, and you can edit or ignore the suggestions.
Smart Node
When: from the + menu, choose Smart Node.
Instead of creating a concept node from a blank page, AI drafts one for you. When Jotaid auto-discovers candidate nodes in your writing, a red dot on the + flags that new suggestions are waiting.
Semantic Suggestions
When: open a node's detail view and reach the AI suggestions layer; or review node-to-node pairs in Node view.
AI finds notes that are related in meaning even when they don't share the exact words — the connections literal search can't see. It deliberately skips plain-text matches so you only see genuinely new ideas. See Potential Links for how this layers with unlinked mentions.
Theme Summaries
When: select a Theme and ask for a summary.
AI analyzes every note in the theme and synthesizes:
- Key insights across the notes
- Open questions and directions
- Connections between ideas
This turns a cluster of raw captures into a readable overview.
Node Enrichment
When: open a concept node and choose to enrich it.
AI expands a stub node with generated content, giving you a starting draft to build on rather than an empty page.
Tidy Up
When: press ⇧⌘F (macOS) or use the editor's more menu.
AI cleans up the formatting of the current note — consistent headings, spacing, and Markdown structure — without changing your meaning. Useful after a fast, messy capture.
Explain a Relationship
When: in the co-occurrence matrix, ask AI about a strong pair.
AI interprets why two notes are related, turning a bright matrix cell into a plain-language explanation.
AI Chat
When: toggle with ⇧⌘B (macOS).
An AI chat panel sits alongside the editor so you can think out loud without leaving your notes.
Tips
- Truncated or empty results usually mean the model is too small for the task — switch to a larger model or a provider with a higher output limit.
- Different workflows suit different models; a fast, cheap model is fine for titles and tags, while summaries and semantic suggestions benefit from a stronger model.
