1.2.3 — Upcoming

Not on the App Store yet.

Tasks. Node mode now holds tasks next to concepts. A concept is something you think about; a task is something you do. Both live in your notes the same way.

• Write []name[] in a note to mention a task. Typing [] suggests the tasks you already have, the way [[ suggests concepts.
• Hover a mention to see the task's status and due date. Once a task is done, its mentions are struck through in the editor and the preview, without changing a word of your text.
• Every task has its own page: status, start and due dates, priority, a body of its own, and backlinks to every note that mentions it. Rename or merge a task the same way you would a concept.
• Kanban: To Do, Doing and Done by default, with Cancelled one menu away. Drag cards between columns, and add columns of your own.
• Calendar: Month, Week and Day views, with an agenda and a list of tasks that have no date.
• The task list filters by Open, Completed, All or Deleted, and sorts by name, due date or priority.
• In the editor, - [ ] and - [x] lines are drawn as checkboxes except on the line you are editing. Existing checklist items can be turned into tasks.
• iOS: switch between Concepts and Tasks from the title bar.

Graph and matrix. Edge width in the graph and cell color in the matrix now show how many notes two concepts share. A pair that met in a single note no longer looks as strong as a pair that shares a dozen. Hover a matrix cell to see the count.

• The tabs in the Node mode overview can be reordered, and the order is remembered.

Export and print.

• Exported PDFs and ⌘P printouts now contain real text: selectable, searchable and sharp at any zoom, instead of a page-sized picture.
• macOS: printing lays the note out for the paper you print on, at full size.
• Exporting now uses the latest version of a note, including edits you made after opening it.

Editor.

• Pressing Return on an empty list item ends the list. Inserting an item in the middle of a numbered list renumbers the items after it.
• Suggested tags now sit at the end of the existing tag row instead of taking a line of their own.
• A note open in the editor picks up changes synced from another device, as long as you haven't edited it here.
• Switching notes and modes is faster, and a single click in the note list no longer waits for a possible double click.

Markdown files outside your library. macOS: several files now open as tabs in one window, and double-clicking a .md file works even when Jotaid is not running.

1.2.2 — 2026-10-04

More for your agents. macOS, Pro: the MCP server gives agents more to work with, still read-only and still limited to the projects you allow.

• Search by exact word as well as by meaning, or both at once.
• See which theme a note belongs to and which notes are pinned.
• Get the notes related to a given note, each labeled with why.
• Explore a topic in one step: from a question to the matching notes, the concepts they are about, and what those concepts connect to.
• Read the whole co-occurrence matrix with its groups, and how a concept has changed over time.
• Text that Enrich and Theme Summary write into your notes is now marked as an AI draft, so neither you nor an agent mistakes it for your own conclusion. Delete the marker line to make it yours.

Language. The interface language follows your system unless you pick one, and AI output set to Auto now follows the interface language. Dates follow the app language too, and AI error messages, provider form checks and several dialogs are now translated.

Notes and navigation.

• The note list title has a small menu for switching between Notes and Trash. macOS: Empty Trash moved to the bottom of the list.
• macOS: with the project bar collapsed, click the project name to open its project note, or hover it to switch projects.
• Searching or opening the trash no longer closes the note you have open on the right.
• New project icons for research work, and two more colors.
• macOS: the AI chat shortcuts in the built-in browser can be renamed, pointed at another address, and reordered by dragging.

Markdown files outside your library. macOS:

• Quitting no longer silently discards unsaved changes in an outside file.
• Before saving, Jotaid checks whether the file changed on disk, and lets you revert to the disk version if it did.
• A file that could not be read can no longer be saved over.

Data safety and sync.

• Going offline no longer pauses sync with a "Sync paused" warning.
• Imports keep your text exactly as written. A note too long to store is refused instead of being cut short and reported as saved, and a failed import now says why.
• The note's info line shows whether your latest changes are protected.
• Settings › Sync gathers project and theme problems in one Diagnostics group. Notes that were hidden by a broken project can be recovered by hand, and orphaned project and theme pages can be moved to the trash after you confirm.
• The offline recovery banner can be dismissed, and recovered data can be exported from Settings.
• Emptying the trash is no longer reported as a data loss.
• Clips are no longer lost when you cancel, and a clip saved while Jotaid was starting up is stored encrypted.

Fixed.

• QuickNote: closing it right after typing no longer shows an error.
• The Apply button in Smart Node and Smart Theme is visible again when disabled.
• An image could stay on its loading placeholder after the cursor moved through its Markdown.
• iOS: fixed a crash.

1.2.1 — 2026-09-24

Traditional Chinese. Jotaid now speaks Traditional Chinese with Taiwan usage, across the app, the share extension and the legal pages. AI titles, summaries, nodes and readings can be written in it too.

Images.

• Images show a shimmer placeholder while they load. A failed image ends in a clear state with a retry, instead of spinning forever.
• Remote images download much faster, and photo-heavy notes load the images on screen first.
• The editor now respects the setting for loading remote images automatically. macOS: a new Display card in Settings gathers it with the graph and canvas line options.
• SVG images can be displayed and stored in your library.
• ![](url) images render in the preview, and collapsed images keep their real size, so scrolling no longer shifts the text.
• Removing an image from a note frees its storage after a 30-day grace period.

Export. Markdown exports now carry their images: a single note with images exports as a folder, and batch and project exports include them too. HTML exports embed local images, and PDF exports include them.

Markdown files outside your library. macOS: open a .md file from Finder with Jotaid, and it opens in its own window without being added to your library. Edit it, save it back to the file, or add it to Jotaid. You can also drag .md files onto the note list to import them.

Editor.

• Typing and deleting are undone separately, and each input-method commit is its own undo step.
• ⌘E switches between editing and preview again. Inline code moved to ⌃, because macOS reserves ⌘ for switching windows.
• macOS: pasting a long text no longer jumps back to the top of the note.
• macOS: Text Size now applies to the preview as well as the editor.
• macOS: in the preview, ⌘A selects the whole note and ⌘C copies its Markdown.
• Spacing around quote blocks, code blocks that wrap, numbered lists past 10, and paragraphs with links in the preview all render correctly. An empty ### no longer turns the next paragraph into a heading.

Notes, search and concepts.

• iOS: tap the pin icon on a pinned note to unpin it.
• Each mode keeps its own search term. Search no longer loses focus after a pause, and finds notes inside themes.
• Related notes for English text are more relevant.
• A concept's Backlinks and Co-occurrence tabs show a single empty state when there is nothing in them yet.
• Adding a concept by hand happens in place. Entering a name that already exists selects that concept instead of creating a duplicate.
• iOS: rejecting a relation moved into a long-press menu.

Data safety. This release removes several clean-ups that used to run at launch and could remove things they should have kept.

• Restoring a backup waits for iCloud to finish importing, which prevented duplicate projects and themes.
• A project restored from the trash comes back with its notes.
• Notes that lost their project are reattached to it, and any notes that still can't be shown appear in Sync Health.
• Rejected relations and concept aliases survive restarts.
• Automatic backups no longer overwrite one another, and backups you exported yourself are kept.

1.2.0 — 2026-09-05

Trends. Node mode gains a third view. The graph shows how concepts connect and the matrix shows how often they meet; Trends puts time back into the picture — when a concept first appeared, when it grew, and when it went quiet.

• Every concept gets a sparkline of its references over time, with a dotted tail where it stopped being mentioned.
• Drag the timeline, and a reference line follows your pointer across all charts at once.
• Three tables rank concepts by references, by share, and by concentration.
• Pro: AI names each stratum and writes a short reading of the period.

Knowledge base server. macOS: Jotaid can serve your notes to AI agents running on the same Mac, over MCP. It is read-only, off by default, and requires Pro — turn it on in Settings › Agent › MCP Connections, then use Copy setup to paste a complete configuration into your agent.

• It binds only to 127.0.0.1, so nothing on your network can reach it, and it uploads nothing anywhere.
• You choose which projects are readable; requests outside that scope are refused.
• The access token lives in the Keychain and can be regenerated at any time, which immediately disconnects anything still attached.
• A "Last used" line shows when an agent last read from it.

AI reading. Pro: the graph and matrix panels can now tell you what they mean, not just what they show. Each reading gives a few observations, one question worth sitting with, and a next step that names a real concept. The whole-graph and whole-matrix readings load on their own; single nodes and single pairs read on request, after you pin the panel.

• On the matrix, AI also names each cluster, and the names are drawn beside the chart rather than hidden in a panel.
• Readings are cached per scope, so the same data is never paid for twice.

Concepts and relations.

• Relations between concepts now have a type — application, hierarchy, contrast, or dependency — proposed by AI (Pro) with the note fragment it read them from. macOS: reject any you disagree with, and it stays rejected — re-analysing won't bring it back.
• Duplicate concept detection: two names for the same idea can be merged, with the old name kept as an alias so links written before the merge still resolve. macOS: results appear in a floating card above the node list; ⌘⇧U runs a check on demand.
• Renaming a concept no longer loses the old name, and deleting a reference leaves a tombstone, so a concept's decline can be replayed rather than silently erased.
• Node rows now show the one-line description you approved when the concept was created.

Semantic index. The index now works paragraph by paragraph instead of taking only the opening of each note. Long notes were previously indexed by their first page alone; related notes and semantic search now reach the whole document, and results point at the passage they matched.

Editor.

• Inline links show only their text while you read, and expand to full Markdown the moment your cursor enters. Quote blocks do the same, drawn as an accent bar.
• Tab now indents a multi-line selection, and no longer leaves a blank line after a list.
• Display math spanning several lines renders again.
• macOS: ⌘⇧H highlight works in the main editor, and QuickNote's ⌘S actually saves.

Notes, tags and files.

• Pin notes to the top of a project.
• Export a note or a whole project as Markdown, with YAML front matter.
• Import now reads front matter, so timestamps from your existing files survive. Images inside an imported vault come along with the notes.
• Rename or merge a tag by right-clicking it; existing case and accent variants converge on first launch.
• Fixed several paths where a new note could silently land in the Inbox instead of the project you were working in.

Canvas.

• macOS: a theme is now a single object — click anywhere inside it to select, drag to move the whole group, and marquee-select it along with cards.
• macOS: drag the handle at a theme's bottom-right corner to change its column count; iOS: tap it for − / + buttons.
• Tidy no longer overwrites a column count you set by hand, and cards no longer pile up at the origin after a drop.

Graph.

• Edge width now encodes relationship strength, so a strong pair reads as strong at a glance rather than by a subtle difference in shade.
• Each view remembers its own camera — zoom, pan, and sphere rotation persist between sessions.
• Hovering a node no longer thickens its edges; width belongs to strength alone.

macOS: Text Size. Settings › General › Appearance now has a slider that scales the interface and note text between 15 and 22 pt. New installs pick a default from the screen width, so smaller laptops start denser.

Fixed.

• Switching the app language now applies to every screen. Roughly a thousand strings previously bypassed the switch, which is why a single dialog could come out half translated.
• Conflict copies are no longer created when two devices differ only by automatic link markers, and an orphaned draft can now retire instead of lingering forever.
• iOS: Smart Node no longer opens an empty sheet or freezes the app, and reordering a pinned note no longer leaves a blank row behind.
• iOS: tapping the current tab again on the bottom capsule opens the whole-graph or whole-matrix overview.
• Locked projects can still be tidied on the canvas — arranging cards is not editing.

1.1.4 — 2026-08-21

Semantic index. Jotaid now keeps a semantic index of your notes. It runs on your device by default — nothing leaves the machine, it costs nothing, and it is on for everyone including free users. You can point it at a remote model with your own API key instead, from Settings › Agent Behaviors › Semantic Index.

Four things are built on it:

• Related notes now include semantically close notes, labelled separately from notes you linked yourself, with a marker for near-duplicates.
• Search gains a Related section: searching "pricing" also surfaces notes that only ever say "price strategy".
• Similar Nodes appear in a node's panel — concepts that read alike but have never appeared in the same note.
• Tag suggestions return, as a row of chips under a note's tags. Candidates can only be tags already in your library; nothing is generated, and no model is called.

Smart node discovery also picks its candidate notes semantically now, rather than by which notes you touched most recently.

Graph and relations.

• The graph overview panel reports on the shape of the whole network — echo chambers, sparse connections, isolated and emerging concepts.
• The node you are looking at is drawn as a slowly rotating sphere, with light flowing outward along its connections.
• Edges stop at the edge of a node circle instead of cutting into it.

Canvas.

• macOS: drag the handle at a theme's bottom-right corner to change how many columns its cards use; the cards rearrange as you drag.
• iOS: tap the handle for − / + buttons, or drag it.
• Tidy no longer overwrites a column count you set by hand.
• Colour bands inside a theme no longer leave a blank row between them.

Capture.

• PopClip clipping can open an edit window before saving, with one click back to silent mode.
• That window no longer closes — taking your edits with it — when saving fails.
• A QuickNote draft restored after a cold start keeps the project it was written in, instead of falling back to the Inbox.

Editor.

• Putting the cursor on the line below a table no longer turns the table back into source.
• Quitting no longer discards an edit you had undone back to the original text.
